Games Make Math Fun

Math CAN be fun!Math is fun? Yes, it is in room 4B. Students have been playing dice games as a review of addition and subtraction facts. One, called AdDICEsun©, is played with two ten sided dice (these can be found for less than a dollar at Fun and Games on 23rd Street in Lawrence). You can play it at home using playing cards or a home made spinner (Use an unbent paper clip for the spinner needle. You can hold it in place with a pencil point). Players roll the dice and add the two numbers together. When both players have played, they compare their two sums. The one with the greatest sum earns a point. Roll doubles and you earn an extra turn. Roll a zero and you lose a turn. Don’t forget to keep score.

Man! Those are hot dice!I designed the second game, Down From 20©, to practice subtraction facts. It is also played with the multifacited, multicolored dice from Fun and Games. This time, it’s a ten sided die and a 20 sided one. Players roll, then subtract the least from the greatest number. The other rules are the same as AdDICEsun©. You can find these and other math games at my website in the Homework section under math tips and games.
